We are currently not recruiting for any roles but please read our newsletters for any announcements. We currently do not offer any volunteer or internship placements directly with the LWA, but keep an eye out in the newsletter or on the forum for any members looking for volunteers or workers.

Membership Support / Advice

Currently the LWA does not have capacity or resources to help individual members or potential members on their specific projects, farms or programmes. We get a lot of requests for individual support and would love to have the time to respond to each request in full. We are fundraising for a new role for somebody to focus on membership support and services as we have identified it is a gap in our offering so please watch this space. Having said that, if your query is critical and urgent please email info@staging.landworkersalliance.org.uk including the word URGENT in the subject header and it will get picked up and we can try our best to help.

    Assistant Grower
    We have an exciting opportunity for a motivated, energetic new grower at Banc Organics at an exciting time of change and growth for our organisation.
    Banc Organics is a social enterprise running a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) vegetable box scheme in south east Carmarthenshire. We are recruiting an Assistant Grower to assist with all aspects of growing, picking and distributing organic vegetables in our local area.
    At Banc Organics, we supply approximately 60 households with weekly vegetables, and are planning to expand our scheme next season. We are looking for a dynamic, enthusiastic grower with at least 2 years’ experience. The ideal candidate will be fit, hard-working and committed, keen to learn and able to take responsibility working on their own as part of a team.
    Banc organics is currently part of the Charity Ty’r Eithin Farm Ltd . The charity is being wound up due to the retirement of the farmers, and Banc Organics is being launched as a not-for-profit cooperative social enterprise. We are recruiting an Assistant Grower to help us during this period, and to allow our team time to manage the transition and set up a new site. This phase is expected to last a few months.
    Providing that this transition goes well, a permanent position will be offered. It is envisaged that the successful candidate will work under close supervision of our experienced grower and learn the system. In future years, they will take more responsibility for day to day running and in time take a role in planning and organising the growing operation.
    Responsibilities
    – Growing: sowing & propagation, planting, cultivating and all practical aspects of production under the supervision of the Grower
    – Care of poly-tunnels
    – Picking and packing
    – Tractor driving and use of machinery
    – Basic maintenance of tools, equipment and site.
    – Working safely and efficiently
    – Assist with moving Banc Organics to a new site and premises, including constructing poly-tunnels, and setting up packing facilities etc.
    – Working safely, following safe working practice and being aware of the safety of themselves and those around them.
    Essential Skills & Experience
    – At least 2 years growing experience, preferably on a commercial organic veg farm
    – Fit and hard working
    – Good team work, cooperative, able to follow instructions, communicate well and get on well with a wide range of people (workers, volunteers, customers)
    – Reliable, self-motivated and able to work on own at times
    – Basic horticultural skills: able to do cultivation, propagation, picking and other basic tasks with direction from the grower but without close supervision.
    – Keen to learn and take responsibility.
    – Attention to detail.

    Desirable Skills & Experience
    – Tractor driving and use of machinery for cultivation
    – An interest in organic farming, food and the environment, and improving what the scheme does
    – Interest in communicating about the scheme, contributing to Banc Organics communications and social media.

    Remuneration
    It is hoped that an Assistant Grower can be recruited to start as soon as possible to assist with the transition, this would be for a 3-4 month period when the candidate would be asked to work on a self-employed basis working up to 2 days a week, this would effectively constitute a trial. Subject to satisfactory performance, and to the successful transition of Banc Organics from Ty’r Eithin Farm Ltd, the candidate will then be offered a 3 day a week contract (potentially rising in subsequent years). We are offering £8.50/hr during this trial phase.
    From the inception of the new Banc Organics organisation, we will be looking to pay all workers at least a living wage. This is anticipated to start from £9.25 in the first year.
