Membership Support / Advice

Currently the LWA does not have capacity or resources to help individual members or potential members on their specific projects, farms or programmes. We get a lot of requests for individual support and would love to have the time to respond to each request in full. We are fundraising for a new role for somebody to focus on membership support and services as we have identified it is a gap in our offering so please watch this space. Having said that, if your query is critical and urgent please email info@staging.landworkersalliance.org.uk including the word URGENT in the subject header and it will get picked up and we can try our best to help.

Apprenticeship: Apprentice Grower and Farm Assistant: Fanfield Farm, East Sussex

Fanfield Farm are looking for an Assistant Grower and Farm Assistant as part of an apprenticeship scheme for a 30 hours a week role.

The position would suit someone who is interested in gaining experience in organic growing but also setting up an market garden style farm and smallholding. Weeks will be filled with tasks such as propagating, planting, maintaining organic vegetable plants. Harvesting, packing and selling produce including regular veg box deliveries. Building up a smallholding and new farm enterprise that is going into its third year, this may include building structures, setting up new systems and working with animals too.

The right candidate would be open to working outside all year round, love nature, be interested in managing an agroecological farm and interested in how small farms operate. As well as be prepared for labour intensive days.

We believe the position is a great offering as not only will the candidate learn the real world of organic farming and growing, but also be actively involved in the building up of a small farm and smallholding, providing practical knowledge and hands-on skills ranging between building outbuildings, to maintaining on site equipment, planting fruit orchards, and building soil health.

Interest in the operational business side could also be an advantage, we also run marketing companies and are happy to teach these skills to potential applicants including marketing, social media and how our operations / sales work.

We are passionate about growing in the right way, and are looking for someone to help us continue that reality and expand into 2022 and beyond whilst sharing our knowledge. It is possible that the position could lead into a full time role for the right candidate.

The apprenticeship is a 2.5 year placement and the right candidate will attend Plumpton Agricultural College for day release during term time.

Full details and application forms are here: https://fanfield.farm/work-with-us/
