Requests for work, volunteering or internships

We are currently not recruiting for any roles but please read our newsletters for any announcements. We currently do not offer any volunteer or internship placements directly with the LWA, but keep an eye out in the newsletter or on the forum for any members looking for volunteers or workers.

Academic/Research Enquiries

Please look at the Agroecology Research Collaboration to see if it fits your area of research/work.

Membership Support / Advice

Currently the LWA does not have capacity or resources to help individual members or potential members on their specific projects, farms or programmes. We get a lot of requests for individual support and would love to have the time to respond to each request in full. We are fundraising for a new role for somebody to focus on membership support and services as we have identified it is a gap in our offering so please watch this space. Having said that, if your query is critical and urgent please email info@staging.landworkersalliance.org.uk including the word URGENT in the subject header and it will get picked up and we can try our best to help.

Contacting Individual Staff

Please take the time to explore our staff page here to see who the most relevant contact for your enquiry is.

LWA Forestry Taster Days

A focus on Youth, Diversity & Education

Are you a young person who is not sure what work you want to do? Have you always wanted to work outdoors? Do you love trees, but had no idea that you could be paid to work with them?

If so, then the Landworkers’ Alliance (LWA)’s Forestry and Woodland taster days could be for you!

Who: Each taster day is capped at 15 youth (16-25 years)

What: Three unique tasters days exploring working with trees and woodlands

Where: Westonbirt Arboretum, Gloucestershire

When: The application deadline has now passed

Why: Because we love trees and we think you will too!

About the taster days

We are offering three fully funded day sessions at Westonbirt Arboretum, Gloucestershire, to give 16-25 year olds the opportunity to explore forestry work and woodland management.

We have a limited number of spaces to offer to those who would benefit from this exciting opportunity. These sessions will be fully funded with all tools, materials, lunch, refreshments and training provided.

No prior knowledge of forestry work is required. Maybe you’ve never been to the woods before, or have never considered a career in forestry – that’s okay! We are keen to hear from people with little experience or access to woodlands. You don’t need to know what you want to do in the future, but if you have a curiosity about work with trees and woodlands then we would love to hear from you!

The deadline to apply has now passed. We will get back to all applicants in early October to let you know if you have a place.

What will we be doing each day?

The three taster days have been designed around different themes around woodland and forestry work. All days will include a small tour of the arboretum including tree identification.

Heritage Crafts (Saturday 5th November): This day will focus more on working with cut wood and how we can create furniture and tools. We will make stools or benches as a group, learn about the life and opportunities of a craftsperson and eat around the fire.

Practical Forestry (Thursday 10th November 2022): This day will focus on the more practical side of forestry, including small demonstrations from staff on site. This may include arborists, sawmill, coppicing, etc. This day will include and practical coppicing session using handsaws and working in small teams.

Woodland Creation (Thursday 17 November 2022): This day will focus more on designing and creating woodlands. This will include a tour of the tree nursery and a small practical session on propagation. This day will also include a practical tree planting session.
