Membership Support / Advice

Currently the LWA does not have capacity or resources to help individual members or potential members on their specific projects, farms or programmes. We get a lot of requests for individual support and would love to have the time to respond to each request in full. We are fundraising for a new role for somebody to focus on membership support and services as we have identified it is a gap in our offering so please watch this space. Having said that, if your query is critical and urgent please email info@staging.landworkersalliance.org.uk including the word URGENT in the subject header and it will get picked up and we can try our best to help.

Contacting Individual Staff

Food, Land Agriculture: a Movement for Equality

Meet FLAME, the youth branch of the LWA

We are FLAME; a new, dynamic grassroots movement for food justice, orchestrated by young people.

Ours is an intimidating time to be young. With the looming existential threat of the climate crisis and the fresh chaos and isolation resulting from the pandemic, naturally a lot of us feel scared and overwhelmed by the future.
But we also have hope. And the courage and conviction to fight for a greener, more just and more equal world.
The necessity of food itself is something that unites us as human beings. The reality of the moment however is that the system producing what we eat is not functioning. It is a driving force of climate breakdown, loss of biodiversity and habitat destruction. Simultaneously, it leaves millions starving and without access to nourishment, accompanied by vast amounts of food waste in wealthier countries.
We seek to alter this destructive structure. Our 3 principle aims are:

Food for All

To demand food justice and enable access to good quality, affordable food for all.

Youth Involvement

To enable greater youth involvement in sustainable food production and landwork.

Promote Agroecology

To promote agroecology as a viable solution to the climate and biodiversity crisis

The present is daunting. But people have organised, campaigned and overcome before. We must try to do the same.

Why join FLAME?

Join us to become part of a community of young people who are interested in taking action on food and farming issues. We will provide opportunities for education on our food system as well as to participate in future events, talks, protests, workshops and festivals. We hope to encourage young people to consider careers and volunteer opportunities in food, farming and landwork.

Who can Join?

Membership to FLAME is open to anyone, from the age of 16 to and including 25, who is interested in campaigning for a better food system for our planet with like minded people.
You can either join FLAME as a landworker or as a supporter depending on what is most relevant for you. If you’re currently working the land, whether that’s as an employee, volunteer or any type of landworker then join as a landworker member.
By joining as a FLAME Landworker you’ll receive all the benefits and voting rights of an LWA Member but for a reduced membership fee of £5. If you have the means you are also welcome to join the LWA at the usual price of £25 yma
If you’re not actively working land then please join as a supporter.
Contact FLAME via youth.flame@staging.landworkersalliance.org.uk, and follow them on Instagram a Facebook.
