Dates: Early February 2023 – January 2024 (with potential for extension).
Wage: £10.20/hour PAYE inc. statutory holiday pay, sick pay and pension contributions.
Hours: 4 days a week, averaging 32 hours over the year (more hours negotiable).

The Assistant Grower will be responsible for assisting in the management of all aspects of organic vegetable production in the field, propagation area, polytunnels and pack shed. (Job share considered for the right applicants).Job Description:
The successful applicant will be working as part of a small team under the instruction of the head grower. They will be involved in every stage of organic vegetable production including propagation, vegetable husbandry, record keeping, harvesting and post-harvest activities. They will be helping to produce high quality vegetables utilising several different styles of production, from field-scale tractor based tillage, planting and weeding, to hand planting high density plantings, successional cropping, and no-dig polytunnels. They will be expected to help oversee seasonal and part time workers.
We believe in empowering our staff. We will support the successful applicant to develop their skills as a grower. We are committed to regular check-ins and to having open streams of communication so we can work with our assistant grower to develop the job role to ensure it is as satisfying and rewarding as possible.Farm description:
The organic certified market garden is 4.5 acres plus 650m2 of no-dig polytunnel space. It’s situated on a traditional 100 acre mixed organic farm, with whom we work very closely.
We are a wholesale operation with a passion for ecology, soil health and efficient working systems. Our primary customer is a popular on-site farm shop and cafe which serves the local community. We also sell to local vegbox schemes, market stalls, greengrocers, cafes and high end restaurants.
We are a four season farm producing a large range of crops year round. We grow 150 different varieties of over 50 different crop types, from maincrop potatoes to peashoots. The production systems utilise both hand tools and tractor mounted machinery.Who we are:
The market garden is run by Adi & Rita; both are first generation farmers who have almost 20 years combined organic horticultural experience. Our ethos is to produce high quality, fresh vegetables for the local community whilst caring for the climate, biodiversity and the soil. Both are members of the Organic Growers Alliance and the Landworkers’ Alliance.Essential traits/skills:
A minimum of two seasons experience in commercial vegetable production.
Self motivated with an ability to work independently.
Drivers licence and vehicle.Desirable traits/skills:
A passion for the environment, biodiversity, soil, and plants.
A quick learner who can work efficiently to a high standard.
Someone who enjoys problem solving, multi-tasking, and is proactive and uses their initiative.
Precise in their work, with a keen eye for detail and an awareness of good quality.
Someone with a positive attitude, who is passionate about working outside in all weather.
Willingness to put energy into clear and honest communication, and to working well as part of a team.
