We are currently not recruiting for any roles but please read our newsletters for any announcements. We currently do not offer any volunteer or internship placements directly with the LWA, but keep an eye out in the newsletter or on the forum for any members looking for volunteers or workers.

Membership Support / Advice

Currently the LWA does not have capacity or resources to help individual members or potential members on their specific projects, farms or programmes. We get a lot of requests for individual support and would love to have the time to respond to each request in full. We are fundraising for a new role for somebody to focus on membership support and services as we have identified it is a gap in our offering so please watch this space. Having said that, if your query is critical and urgent please email info@staging.landworkersalliance.org.uk including the word URGENT in the subject header and it will get picked up and we can try our best to help.

    – Part-time role assisting the head grower on the new 4 acre market garden project

    Good Small Farms took over the management of Hammonds Farm in July 2021. The 100 acre farm is situated in the beautiful Cotswold countryside, just outside of Stroud. We are developing it as a mixed, regenerative farm that will include various farming enterprises focused on local food and fibre supply using agro-ecological approaches such as agroforestry.

    The market garden will include horticultural zero dig beds as well as minimum till areas, initially on 4 acres with a view to expanding to field scale growing on 12 acres. We will be producing vegetables, herbs and cut flowers and selling them through a box scheme and wholesale to local businesses. The successful candidate would be joining an exciting and growing ecosystem of enterprises with opportunities to develop their role further with other projects on the farm.

    We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced grower wanting to develop their vegetable producing skills to help the head grower with the establishment and running of the market garden on the farm.

    Responsibilities
    – Assisting the head grower with the establishment of the growing area
    – Helping with the production of vegetables, herbs and cut flowers
    – Carrying out varied tasks such as seed propagation, weeding, harvesting, planting out and veg deliveries
    – Packing veg boxes and harvesting specific orders on harvest days
    – Maintaining clear and detailed records of tasks carried out
    – Liaising with other members of the farm team
    – Keeping a record of any tasks carried out

    Essential Skills and Experience
    – Minimum two growing seasons on a commercial, chemical free market garden or equivalent
    – Good communication, team-working skills and the ability to work alone
    – Ability to manage varied workload
    – Self motivated
    – Good attention to detail
    – Ability to work quickly and efficiently under time pressure
    – A love of the land and a passion to work with nature
    – Ability to work outside in all weathers
    – A sense of humour
    – Full UK driving licence

    Salary
    £12/hr working on average 16 hours a week and additional holiday cover if needed

    Assessments: First and second weeks of March one day paid work trial
