Membership Support / Advice

Currently the LWA does not have capacity or resources to help individual members or potential members on their specific projects, farms or programmes. We get a lot of requests for individual support and would love to have the time to respond to each request in full. We are fundraising for a new role for somebody to focus on membership support and services as we have identified it is a gap in our offering so please watch this space. Having said that, if your query is critical and urgent please email info@staging.landworkersalliance.org.uk including the word URGENT in the subject header and it will get picked up and we can try our best to help.

Good Small Farms has the following principles:
Regenerative: our net impact on the environment is increasingly positive. We think in terms of systems and try to ensure that one enterprise’s waste is another enterprise’s raw material.
Collaborative: we think it is important to share knowledge and time to expand horizons and spread good practice. This helps to increase connectivity and develop community resilience.
Viable: we are profitable in order to be able to perpetuate and proliferate our business model.
Fun: we try not to take ourselves too seriously. Fun is a fundamental part of how we operate.

Good Small Farms took over the management of Hammonds Farm in July 2021. The 100 acre farm is situated in the beautiful Cotswold countryside, just outside of Stroud. It is being developed as a mixed, regenerative farm that will include various farming enterprises focused on local food and fibre supply using agroecological approaches such as agroforestry.

The market garden will include horticultural beds as well as top and soft fruit, initially on almost 4 acres with a view to expanding to 12 acres. The successful candidate would be joining an exciting and growing ecosystem of enterprises with opportunities to develop their role further.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced head grower to take up the challenge of establishing the market garden at Hammonds Farm. Applicants are invited to share their ideas using methods consistent with regenerative practices.

    Responsibilities

Establishing and cultivating the market garden
Planning and managing every aspect of garden production
    Maintaining clear and detailed records
    Maintaining management accounts
Planning and placing orders for materials and supplies
Liaising with other members of the farm team
Managing a small team of part time growers/volunteers

    Essential Skills and Experience

Minimum two years growing experience in a commercial, chemical free market garden or equivalent
Experience of crop planning and record keeping
    Good communication and team-working skills
    Ability to manage workload
    Excellent organisational skills
A love of the land and a passion to work with nature
Ability to work outside in all weathers
    Full UK driving licence

Salary: Approximately £24,000 depending on experience working on average 40 hours a week

    Application deadline: 10 November 2021

    Assessments: 15-19 November 2021

    Start Date: December 2021

    Please send CV’s to eric@hammonds-farm.co.uk
