Post Title: Lead Gardener
Full Time –£22,000 per annum, fixed term one year, 37.5 hrs/week with flexible hours for seasonality.
Responsible to: Campy Growers Committee

Campy Growers is a newly-established SCIO whose main purpose is to grow food on an area of degenerated land within Dundee’s Camperdown Park. We have secured funding from Dundee City Council’s Climate Choices Fund for one year, and this post will focus on building climate resilience through local food production and empowerment through education.
This is a unique opportunity to help establish an urban community market garden using sustainable methods of food growing to enhance the environment, local food production and to work positively with the local community.

You will have a flexible approach to food growing and be adaptable enough to work with people of all ages and abilities. Your excellent interpersonal skills will be exercised every day as we welcome everyone into the garden.

Main Duties
• Market garden planning, multi-crop production, harvesting and packing of fruits and vegetables ready for collection or delivery
• Welcoming visitors and volunteers to the site
• Co-designing the structure and functionality of the market garden
• Establishing and trialling a community-supported agriculture system
• Assisting in planning and delivering garden seasonal events, fundraisers and open days
• Managing rotation systems and building soil fertility and biodiversity
• Running weekly volunteer sessions with community members
• Deliver practical food-growing workshops, with flexible delivery according to people’s varied needs
• Work collaboratively with the project development worker and trustees to ensure the site runs smoothly and safely
• Ensuring adherence to Health and Safety practices

• Competence in all aspects of food growing, crop planning and managing rotations (ess)
• Experience of working on a commercial food-growing market garden (des)

KNOWLEDGE

• Knowledge of growing fruit and vegetables from seed and other propagation techniques (ess)
• Knowledge and understanding of horticulture and food growing (ess)
• Composting techniques (ess)
