Academic/Research Enquiries

Please look at the Agroecology Research Collaboration to see if it fits your area of research/work.

Membership Support / Advice

Currently the LWA does not have capacity or resources to help individual members or potential members on their specific projects, farms or programmes. We get a lot of requests for individual support and would love to have the time to respond to each request in full. We are fundraising for a new role for somebody to focus on membership support and services as we have identified it is a gap in our offering so please watch this space. Having said that, if your query is critical and urgent please email info@staging.landworkersalliance.org.uk including the word URGENT in the subject header and it will get picked up and we can try our best to help.

Contacting Individual Staff

Looking for Apprenticeship

Hi there, my name is Stephanie…

I wonder if I could ask for some help and advice here?

I am looking for some on-site experience with an organic farm, ideally one that considers regenerative methods and permaculture principles. I have experience of organic market gardening and vegetable growing, but in addition to this I would really love to learn more about the integration of livestock grazing, bee-keeping, perennial/tree crops, woodland management, re-wilding areas, etc.

My drive is strong, and I’m very passionate about how changing the way we farm can change the world. However, here is the complication…

I am also a single-parent of two aged 6 and 8. I do feel that with my need to also provide a stable home and education for my children, a longer placement would suit us best. Ideally at least a full school year of Sep-July or Sep-Sep. That way I would be able to find them a local school place so my work efforts on the farm can be fully-focused.

I see there are internships around where accommodation is provided on-site, although they usually run for around six months. I also see that there used to be two year long apprenticeships run through the Soil Assoc’s Future Farmer’s project, but this is no longer running.

Alternatively if there were a farm-based community where children were home-educated, I could pool resources with other parents. We have both home educated and lived off grid before.

A perfect scenario for us would be a family friendly farm where we could live on-site for a year or two, they could settle into a local school, and I could work hard at learning as much as possible and being as useful as possible! I would gladly arrange hours work in exchange for food/accommodation and could provide our own caravan or temporary structure if needed. I am also open to consider other options/models such as an apprenticeship scheme.

We are currently in the South-West and would love an opportunity in Somerset/Devon/Wiltshire/Gloucestershire/Dorset, but would absolutely consider relocating further afield for the right opportunity.

IF ANYONE KNOWS of any schemes, farms or projects that may be able to help us with our mission, or has any advice, please contact me! I can provide more information on my relevant experience, and obviously a trial stay.

My email address is rigidfabric@googlemail.com, telephone is 07413450004.

    Thank you for your time!

    Stephanie
