Academic/Research Enquiries

Please look at the Agroecology Research Collaboration to see if it fits your area of research/work.

Membership Support / Advice

Currently the LWA does not have capacity or resources to help individual members or potential members on their specific projects, farms or programmes. We get a lot of requests for individual support and would love to have the time to respond to each request in full. We are fundraising for a new role for somebody to focus on membership support and services as we have identified it is a gap in our offering so please watch this space. Having said that, if your query is critical and urgent please email info@staging.landworkersalliance.org.uk including the word URGENT in the subject header and it will get picked up and we can try our best to help.

Contacting Individual Staff

Please take the time to explore our staff page here to see who the most relevant contact for your enquiry is. Our addresses format is firstname.lastname@staging.landworkersalliance.org.uk Please bear in mind we all work part time and have limited capacity to respond to enquiries outside our core areas of work. You can also find information under the About Us header about branch and regional organising, and identity groups within the LWA membership.

We are looking for someone to join our team for the 2022 growing season – from April through to October. The position is part-time (3 days per week), paid a stipend of £100/week.

There is also the hope and possibility of continuing the traineeship into a 2nd year, dependent on the traineeship going well for both parties in year 1. This would be a part-time position (3 or 4 days), and paid at the national living wage.

During year 1 (and certainly year 2), there will be opportunity to take on responsibility, obtain a fulsome overview of the workings of the business, and develop the skills and capability to run a market garden. We have made this into a 2 year position (subject to interview at end of year 1), in order to deliver such a comprehensive training. This is an excellent learning opportunity for someone who wants to go on to run a market garden or work in community gardening.

We are a three-acre CSA farm, providing veg shares year-round and teaching accredited horticulture courses in partnership with Bicton College. We also sell to a few local restaurants, grow a number of seed crops, and host well-attended volunteer days.

You will be involved in all aspects of running the market garden, including propagation, cultivation, fertility management, crop care, harvesting, and maintenance of infrastructure. There will also be opportunities to get involved in marketing, events, and working with volunteers, depending on your interests.

We are also active members of both the South West growers’ group and the South Hams growers’ group, so you would be welcome to join in on tours and networking events at other local farms.

See our website at http://www.schoolfarmcsa.org.uk for more info about the project.

To apply, please send us an email explaining why you are interested in the position and your current growing and other work experience. The extended deadline for applications is 5pm Sunday 23rd January.

Interviews will be held at the farm on Tuesday 1st Feb or Thursday 3rd Feb.

Accommodation will not be available on site.

For any questions and to apply please email info@schoolfarmcsa.org.uk.
